Golden wonder killifish, or Aplocheilus lineatus, are captivating aquarium species known for their vibrant golden-yellow coloration and elongated body. They're native to the fresh and brackish waters of South and Southeast Asia. The males, particularly, are attractive with their metallic hues and elongated tail and dorsal fins.

Golden wonder killifish prefer slightly acidic water conditions, with a pH lower than 7, ideally around 6 to 6.5. The water hardness should be between 5 and 12 dH. The temperature of the water should be maintained between 72 and 77°F (22 to 25°C).

Being surface dwellers and strong jumpers, these fish require a well-covered aquarium to prevent them from jumping out. They are not particularly large, with adults reaching up to 4 inches in length, but they do appreciate some swimming space, so a tank of at least 20 gallons is advisable.

The tank should have plenty of hiding spots, such as live plants, rocks, and driftwood, to mimic their natural habitat. However, be sure to leave some open space near the top of the tank for them to swim and feed.

As for diet, golden wonder killifish are carnivorous. They enjoy live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms, but they can also be fed high-quality flake or pellet foods.

These fish are generally peaceful, but they can predate on smaller fish due to their large mouths. Therefore, careful selection of tank mates is necessary. They can be kept singly or in pairs.

Regular water changes, typically once a week, are crucial to maintain the water quality and keep your golden wonder killifish healthy.

In summary, golden wonder killifish, with their striking coloration and interesting behaviors, can be a delightful addition to your aquarium given the right care and conditions.
