Blue Channel Catfish (Ictalurus punctatus)
Channel catfish carry taste buds not just on the barbels but scattered across the entire body surface — among the highest densities of taste receptors found in any vertebrate, letting the fish essentially taste the water itself as it swims through it. It's a workhorse species, farmed and stocked across the country, and one of the toughest, most adaptable catfish anyone could keep in a large enough setup.
