Blue Gourami (Trichopodus trichopterus)
Trichopodus trichopterus, the three-spot gourami, actually only shows two spots on a live fish, mid-body and at the tail base, the "third spot" in the common name is the eye itself, counted in by the naturalists who first described it. This blue line is one of several stable color forms bred from the same species, alongside the gold and opaline varieties sold right alongside it. Like every gourami, it breathes atmospheric air through a labyrinth organ, so it can handle water conditions that would stress out a fish without that backup system.
