Branching Bicolor Hammer Coral (Euphyllia sp.) Colony
Euphyllia earn the hammer nickname honestly — pull one out of water and the polyp tips are shaped like tiny anchor heads, right down to the flared ends. This colony's already established, throwing two-tone tips that catch light differently depending on the angle, and swaying on their inflated tissue like it's plugged into the current. Don't let the swaying fool you: at night those polyps retract and sweeper tentacles come out hunting, loaded with nematocysts that don't discriminate between plankton and your neighbor's flesh. Give it room.
Care level: Easy · Light/Flow/Placement: Low-moderate light, low-moderate indirect flow, bottom-to-mid tank with space from neighbors · Max size: Colony, several inches across and growing · Diet: Photosynthetic, benefits from occasional meaty feedings
