Electric Catfish (Malapterurus sp.)
Electric catfish generate their shock using an electric organ built from modified cheek muscle — a completely different evolutionary origin than the electric eel's famous discharge, despite the superficially similar result. Wild adults can produce jolts north of 300 volts, more than enough to stun prey or make a very memorable point to anything, human included, that gets careless during tank maintenance.
Care level: Difficult · Temperament: Peaceful, solitary · Max size: ~12" · Min tank: 75 gal · Diet: Carnivore, live/frozen foods
