Male Furcata Forktail Rainbowfish (Pseudomugil furcatus)

Pseudomugil furcatus belongs to the blue-eye family rather than the true Melanotaeniidae rainbows, a separate lineage that converged on a similar shimmering body plan, and the forked tail the common name references is noticeably more pronounced than the simple rounded or lightly notched tails on most rainbowfish. Colors intensify substantially in mature males, this being a male shown in full color. Peaceful and active, best kept in a real school to show off that distinctive tail shape together.
