Maroon Clownfish (Premnas biaculeatus)
Maroon clownfish belong to their own genus, Premnas, distinguished by a spine on each cheek that other clownfish don't have — useful hardware in a fish that's already the largest and most territorial member of the family. Like every clownfish, it starts life male; the biggest, boldest individual in a group transitions to female and stays that way, so a Maroon's gender ends up being a function of how much real estate it's claimed.
Care level: Easy · Temperament: Aggressive, territorial · Max size: ~7" · Min tank: 30 gal · Diet: Omnivore, marine flake/pellet
