Ichthyologists estimate hundreds of Loricariid catfish species across the Amazon and Orinoco basins remain formally undescribed, even as many circulate in the aquarium trade under L-numbers and common names like this one's "orange seam." The dark body and bright orange fin trim make for one of the more visually striking examples of that huge, still only partially cataloged group.
