True cave-adapted species like this one shed equipment evolution doesn't reward in permanent darkness: eyes are reduced or gone entirely, and pigment production shuts down since there's no light to hide from and no mates to color-display to. In their place, an especially sensitive lateral line and chemoreception handle all the navigating and hunting in an environment where sight would be useless anyway.
