Polypterus Endlicheri
This saddle-patterned bichir shares the genus's full toolkit: a pair of functional lungs for supplementary air-breathing, fleshy-based pectoral fins built for substrate-walking as much as swimming, and a nose-driven hunting style that leans on smell more than the fairly limited eyesight bichirs actually have. A hardy, prehistoric-looking centerpiece popular with New Milford-area predator-tank keepers.
Care level: Easy · Temperament: Peaceful with larger tankmates · Max size: ~20" · Min tank: 75 gal · Diet: Carnivore, live/frozen/sinking meaty foods
