Polypterus Ornatipinnis

The net-like scale pattern on this bichir is about as ornate as the genus gets, but underneath the good looks it runs the same ancient body plan as its plainer relatives: paired lungs, fleshy substrate-walking pectoral fins, and a scent-driven hunting style built for water too murky or dark for eyesight to matter much.
