Royal Dottyback (Pictichromis paccagnellae)

The Royal Dottyback wears almost the exact purple-and-yellow split of the Royal Gramma, a completely unrelated fish from a different family entirely — convergent coloring that may help it slip past the Gramma's usual predators, or just muscle in on prime real estate by looking like a fish that's already there. Whatever the reason, it's one of the sharper examples of mimicry hiding in plain sight on a reef.
