Rubber Lip Pleco (Chaetostoma sp.)
Rubber Lip Plecos get their name from a genuinely distinctive, thick-lipped sucker mouth built for near-constant grazing, and they put it to work quietly and efficiently on algae and biofilm without the territorial attitude some plecos develop as they mature. They stay on the smaller, milder side of the pleco family, both in size and temperament, which makes them a solid algae-control option for a community tank that doesn't want to eventually accommodate a foot-long fish with an attitude. Give them some driftwood and a steady supply of algae or wafers and they'll spend most of their time quietly doing the one job they're built for.
