Tank-Raised Iridescent Shark (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus)
This is the same species sold in supermarket freezers as "swai" or "basa" fillets — a hugely important farmed food fish across Southeast Asia, and in the wild one of the largest migratory catfish in the Mekong River system, moving in schools that can number in the thousands. The shimmering juveniles sold for aquariums are the exact same fish, just headed for a very different life if the tank they land in can't keep up with the growth.
Care level: Easy · Temperament: Peaceful, shoaling · Max size: ~48"+ (adult) · Min tank: 300+ gal or pond (adult) · Diet: Omnivore, flake/pellet + veggies
