Tank-Raised Silver Hatchetfish (Gasteropelecus sternicla)
Same remarkable biology as any hatchetfish, that hatchet-shaped keel of a belly houses the muscle mass for genuine powered flight, flapping oversized pectoral fins to extend an escape jump well beyond a passive glide, one of the only freshwater fish capable of it. This line is tank-raised rather than wild-caught, meaning an easier adjustment to captive water parameters and less handling stress coming into a new setup. A tightly covered tank is essential regardless of origin.
Care level: Moderate · Temperament: Peaceful, shoaling · Max size: ~2" · Min tank: 20 gal, tightly covered · Diet: Carnivore, small floating foods
