Twinspot Coris Wrasse (Coris aygula)
Few fish change more dramatically between youth and adulthood than the Twinspot Coris — the juvenile sold here, with its two bold false eyespots and orange-and-white patterning, will eventually grow into an entirely different-looking, much larger olive-green adult with a bulging forehead, a transformation so complete that 19th-century naturalists originally described the two stages as separate species. Like its Coris relatives, it dives straight into the sand bed at night or at the first sign of danger. A hardy, fast-growing wrasse that needs room to become what it's going to become.
Care level: Easy · Temperament: Semi-aggressive · Max size: ~16" · Min tank: 100+ gal, sand bed · Diet: Carnivore, meaty foods
