Celebes Halfbeak

Halfbeaks are named for an elongated lower jaw that extends well past a short, stub-like upper one, a lopsided design built for skimming insects and debris off the surface film. Despite looking like an egg-laying cousin of the needlefish, this species is actually a livebearer, with males carrying a modified fin structure for internal fertilization much like a guppy or platy.
