Electric Green GLO Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi)
The GloFish line traces back to zebrafish engineered as pollution biosensors, a fluorescent protein gene borrowed from jellyfish or coral DNA and spliced in so researchers could watch color respond to waterborne toxins, long before the tech got repurposed for the pet trade in the early 2000s as one of the first genetically modified animals sold commercially in the US. This tetra carries that same heritable gene, expressed as a genuine electric green rather than a dye job, and it breeds true rather than fading over time. Peaceful, hardy, and eye-catching in a real school.
