Freshwater Stone Fish
Stonefish-type ambush predators grow real algae and encrusting organisms directly on rough, textured skin, turning camouflage into an active biological process rather than just a paint job — by the time it's settled into a tank, it can look less like a fish and more like a piece of the substrate that occasionally blinks. The venomous dorsal spines are strictly defensive, built to deliver a jolt to anything that steps on or grabs it rather than any kind of offensive weapon.
Care level: Moderate · Temperament: Solitary, predatory · Max size: ~8" · Min tank: 30 gal · Diet: Carnivore, live/frozen meaty foods
