Green Scat (Scatophagus argus)

"Scat" is short for Scatophagus, Greek for something close to "dung eater," a blunt but accurate nod to this fish's opportunistic wild diet scavenging around mangrove roots and tidal debris in brackish estuaries. In the tank that same opportunism just reads as a hardy, easygoing appetite, provided the water carries a bit of the salt this species expects as it grows into adulthood.
