Maculosus Angelfish (Pomacanthus maculosus)
Maculosus Angelfish darken and sharpen their black-and-yellow contrast as they age, so an older specimen reads noticeably bolder than a younger one of the same species. Like other large Pomacanthus angels, it carries a defensive spine hidden on the gill plate and spends its juvenile phase in a completely different pattern before settling into adult coloring. A serious showpiece for a big, established tank.
Care level: Moderate · Temperament: Semi-aggressive · Max size: ~15" · Min tank: 180+ gal · Diet: Omnivore, marine algae + meaty foods
