Madagascar Rainbowfish (Bedotia geayi)
Bedotia geayi isn't actually a member of the Australian-New Guinea Melanotaeniidae family at all, it's Madagascar's own separate lineage, family Bedotiidae, that evolved a strikingly similar shimmering, soft-finned body plan on a completely different continent, a genuine case of convergent evolution rather than shared ancestry. The soft red-orange fin accents show up best under decent lighting in a real school. Peaceful and active, a solid centerpiece for a larger community tank.
Care level: Easy · Temperament: Peaceful, shoaling · Max size: ~4.5" · Min tank: 30 gal · Diet: Omnivore, flake/pellet
