Marine Betta Comet (Calloplesiops altivelis)
The Marine Betta's party trick is one of the best mimicry acts in the ocean: when threatened, it backs tail-first into a crevice and flares a large eyespot near its tail that looks uncannily like the head of a moray eel peering out of its den, scaring off would-be predators that would rather not find out. Despite the common name it isn't a grouper at all but a close relative, and it hunts the same patient, ambush style from the shadows of a cave or overhang. Shy, nocturnal-leaning, and one of the more genuinely clever fish in the hobby.
