Purple Plate Fungia Coral
Fungia are free-living for their entire adult life — no base plate, no cementing to rock, just a single large disc-shaped polyp resting on the sand that can actually right itself if flipped over, using its own tissue to flex and roll back upright. This one runs a rich purple across the septa, the radiating ridges that give plate corals their fingerprint-like pattern. Because it's not attached to anything, it can be gently repositioned as your aquascape evolves without stressing the animal the way cutting a branching coral off rock would.
Care level: Easy · Light/Flow/Placement: Low-moderate light, low-moderate flow, sand bed · Max size: 4-6" disc · Diet: Photosynthetic, benefits from occasional meaty feeding
