Red Pearlscale Butterflyfish (Chaetodon xanthurus)
A fine crosshatch pattern across each scale gives the Red Pearlscale Butterflyfish a texture that looks almost engraved up close, set against a warm red-orange wash that fades toward the fins. It's a slower, more deliberate feeder than some of its relatives, picking at rock and substrate for hidden invertebrates throughout the day. Best suited to a calm, established tank with plenty of live rock to forage across.
Care level: Moderate · Temperament: Peaceful · Max size: ~6" · Min tank: 55 gal · Diet: Omnivore, meaty foods + algae
