Redtail botia carries the same folding suborbital spine and mock-wrestling social streak as its close relative the yoyo loach, but trades the fading juvenile stripe pattern for a tail that stays flushed red-orange into adulthood — a handy field mark once the body pattern breaks up into blotches with age.
