Tobacco Bass (Serranus tabacarius)

Rounding out the Serranus lineup, the Tobacco Bass runs the same simultaneous-hermaphrodite setup as its Chalk and Harlequin cousins — trading male and female roles with its mate rather than locking into one sex. Warm, speckled coloring lets it blend into sandy rubble zones while it waits, motionless, for something smaller to wander past.
