Water Hyacinth

Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) is a floating powerhouse, riding the surface on glossy leaves buoyed by spongy, bulbous stems and trailing long, feathery roots beneath. Those dangling roots make superb cover and filtration, soaking up excess nutrients at a remarkable rate. It thrives with bright overhead light and open surface space — and in ponds it can even reward you with lavender flowers.
